GOD'S GRACE
Week 2: God's Grace
Scripture:
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV)
Reflection:
Grace is a central theme in the Bible. We see it in the beginning with the fall of man. It is through God’s grace that we find salvation, restoration, and hope. Grace is not something we can earn, and it’s definitely not something we deserve.
The beautiful truth is that grace is not based on our actions or our ability to “earn” it. It is freely given by God because of His love for us. In the letter to the Ephesians, Paul reminds us that salvation is a gift from God, given to us through His grace.
Grace saves us and empowers us. It transforms us and enables us to live differently than we would on our own. The grace that saves us is the same grace that God showed to Adam and Eve in the Garden after sin entered the world, the Israelites with their repeated disobedience in the wilderness, David when he took Bathsheba as his wife, and the list of examples in the Bible goes on.
Perhaps you have been done wrong by someone or if you’re like me, you may mess up and you are very hard on yourself for what you feel you should have done in a situation. I encourage you to give that person (AND yourself) grace. It is not the easiest thing to apply, but in giving grace, it calls for humility. It reminds us that our salvation and our daily lives are not dependent on our efforts, but on God’s goodness. As we receive God’s grace, we are invited to extend grace to others. It means forgiving those who wrong us, loving those who are difficult to love, and serving others with a heart of kindness and compassion.
Today, reflect on the gift of grace in your own life. Do you find yourself trying to earn God’s love? Are there areas where you’re holding onto unforgiveness or bitterness? How can you be more intentional in showing grace to others, as God has shown grace to you?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your grace. I recognize that I am undeserving of Your love, yet You have given it to me time after time. Help me to walk in Your grace daily, to live with humility, to not abuse this gift, and to extend the same grace to others that You have shown to me. May my life reflect the power and beauty of Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen
